New Bethel Cemetery
PIRA, LVGHS & BCPA

For the first time, members of the Paranormal Investigators & Research Association (PIRA), the Lehigh Valley Ghost Hunters Society (LVGHS)and the Berks County Paranormal Association  (BCPA) have come together for a little informal investigation of the "world famous" New Bethel Cemetery at the base of Hawk Mountain. The team leaders- Kenny, Scott and Rick- met at the cemetery in the hopes of recording some EVPs. First things first though, we had to grab a bite to eat! We hoped in our cars and ended up at C.J. Hummels, a place that makes on mean chicken sandwich. Although we got there a little too late and settled for chicken fingers...which Rick deemed "the best in the world".

We arrived back at New Bethel Cemetery close to midnight. The three of us broke out the gear and headed up the hill towards the top. Rick set up his laptop computer  while Scott and I set up our digital recorders. Rick had a microphone recording directly into his laptop, as we watched the sound levels through a Cool Edit program, we were able to witness several spikes on the audio graph. This is definately a method that needs more attention, as well as be more widely used.

Scott keeping an eye out while Rick works the laptop Rick, Scott and Kenny - and maybe someone else...

The night was cold (VERY cold), but it was well worth it. Towards the middle of the cemetery, I was able to catch movement between two headstones. It appeared to be a dark figure crouched down and hiding behind the stones. As soon as I said something to the other two, the figure ducked behind a stone. I walked down to the area, but found nothing. I was unable to capture any photos that could be used...it was just too cold and I had no other equipment out. Rick has obtained two EVPs from this night. They can be listened to by going to his site at NEW BETHEL EVPs.

Although it was not a spectacular night, it didn't disappoint me at all. I had the chance to sit and talk face-to-face with two people I've "known" for some time. Ideas flew about and many topics were discussed. I can say with confidence that there will be many more of these meetings, along with many more chicken sandwiches eaten!
