We're the ferrets here, Quasimodo, Razzle and Marie. That's Quasi you can see peeking from under the couch at the top of this page. You can see some pictures of all of us here . We've been inspired to write our view of the world after reading the articles of one M.D. Jerry , a dog of amazing insight into the human, and animal, condition. We're very sad to hear he's no longer with us, but like so many advanced thinkers in history, his lessons live on. We will, in our own small way, try to live up to the his example.
Jerry wrote a series of articles titled "Closer to the Ground," where he talks about people, animals, and how the world isn't as complicated as the humans seem to think it is.
One of Jerry's insights is that as you get closer to the ground, you can see the world more accurately for what it is. Jerry was pretty close to the ground, but we've observed (from the dogs that live with us) that, unless they're sleeping, dogs don't get anywhere near as close to the ground as we do. We also notice that to REALLY appreciate humans you have to get under the furniture. Most dogs are just too big to get really low down under anything smaller than a coffee table. We've also found that the best piece of furniture to get under is the couch. For some reason we haven't figured yet, the humans, and even the dogs, seem to think that whatever you kick under the couch is gone forever. They also NEVER seem to think to look under the couch to see if little eyes and ears are trained on them
Thus, our series of articles, written as Jerry's were whenver he could get his "owner" away from the computer long enough and he felt motivated enough to knock one out, will be our observations of the world "From Under the Couch."
We're not sure how it got that way, but in general when us ferrets shuck off this mortal coil (die, if you prefer) it's often referred to as our having "crossed the bridge" or "gone to the bridge." The "bridge" mentioned there is The Rainbow Bridge. Quasimodo want's to play with the bridge itself, but we all think it's more than a bit cool. As may be, Here is a great write up about The Rainbow Bridge which we gathered from the alt.pets.ferrets news group.
* If you read the articles before February 2004 (02/14/04) you'll see Minya as well. She used to be our boss ferret here. She gone to the Rainbow Bridge.
