Ferrets

Minya

Minya

Minya was our oldest at almost seven years old. She was our second ferret. Born May 21, 1997, passed on February 14, 2004.

Razzle

Razzle

Razzle was six years old and our third ferret. She was born February 3, 2000, passed on August 24, 2006.

Quasimodo

Quasimodo

Quasimodo is about six years old (as of 2006). He's our fourth ferret.

We're not sure exactly how old he is, because he was picked up by Animal Rescue wandering down a street in a nearby town and ended up with us when nobody claimed him. The three year estimate is from one of his vets who has some experience is judging age by tooth coloration. His full time vet agrees with the reasoning, and said his condition works out about right for three, so we're going with it.

Quasimodo and one of our cats, Shift, play with each other, though the cat seems to get bored with the game fairly quickly. It's mostly them chasing each other around and trying to sneak up on each other.

We've selected April 1, 2000, as his birthday since he's such a commedian.

He's an huge boy and very well behaved. He must have had a lot of attention before he either escaped or was let loose.

Marie

Marie

Marie is a about three years old (as of 2006). She's our fifth ferret.

We don't know quite how old she is either. We got her from a family who was was getting ready to move out of state and "couldn't figure out what to do with her." We had fears she'd end up in the wild, so we took her in. When we first got her she was amazingly thin, but not only filled out quickly but is now a rival to Quasimodo for the "chubbiest ferret" designation. She's not actually bigger than he is overall, but she's at least as wide as he is while being almost two inches shorter.

Marie and our biggest dog, Maggie, seem to have hit it off awfully well. Marie chases Maggie into the kitchen, then we see Maggie chase Marie back into the living room. Marie will go under the couch and Maggie will lay on the floor waiting for her to come out. Marie circles around the far end, ducks under the desk and comes out behind Maggie and scampers for the kitchen and the chase is on again. They seem to have a good time. It's a bit like Quasimodo and Shift, except that they'll keep it up off and on for hours.

We've picked March 15, 2003, as his birthday, because we got her in the middle of November, they claimed she was about nine months old, and the vet agreed.

Sleeping Beauties

Sleeping Beauties

Here's the Quasimodo, Minya and Razzle resting up after a hard morning destroying our living room. They have hammocs, sleeping boxes and other places to rest, but sometimes they seem to just like to all fall down together on the bottom of the cage.

That, by the way, is their empty snack bowl, not their food bowl. Their food is in an automatic feader the next level up in the cage.
