The High Road forum Hijacked! Calling out the posse for help

is what the founder, Oleg Volk, is doing.

In December 2002, I founded The High Road forum dedicated to the advancement of responsible gun ownership. Recently, it was discovered that in 2006, the volunteer forum systems administrator, Derek Zeanah of Statesboro, Georgia, changed domain registration to himself. After he was confronted, Derek locked out all other staff from accessing the Web server administration and would not share even backup copies of its content. After failed attempts to peacefully resolve the dispute, it has become necessary for me to initiate a lawsuit against Derek Zeanah for the return of thehighroad.org domain name and the forum database.

I am seeking and would greatly appreciate donations to help with the cost of litigation. You can use Paypal (olegvolk@gmail.com) or send a check to:
Oleg Volk 3112 Chambley Ct Hermitage, TN 37076

All donations shall be returned if the lawsuit is ultimately avoided. You can also aid me by re-posting this appeal on your blog, forum or web site. My legal position is already endorsed by almost all of The High Road staff as well as Rich Lucibella, the founder of The Firing Line forum.

UPDATE: Derek's reaction was to disable The High Road forum all together. He also removed most of the staff who opposed him.

I'm a member of that forum just as I'm a member of every other gun forum. I never felt that it was the best or most high-toned but it was pretty good. I had noticed a decline over the past few months although as a moderator at Paco Kelly's Leverguns forum, I visited less and less over time. Still, theft is theft. If you can help Mr. Volk, please do so.

**********
There have been further comments by a current (former?) moderator of The High Road. I think it sheds some light (rather than only adding smoke and noise) on this unfortunate drama.

Roboform and Leverguns Forum

If a person uses Roboform or a similar passworded link manager, they must find Leverguns again by Googling it. The site was up, yet my former stored password and link did not work because there has been a minute change in the login string. Roboform users must find Leverguns through Google, click on it, then "Save" it again in their Roboform or similar software - then log in and save it again.

Leverguns Forum - Update

Anyway, the "official word" is that the restoration will be done when
the 'net decides to cooperate, if not tonight then hopefully in the
morning. It was working slick this morning so I got cocky and decided
to play with the upgrade - thank God I did so AFTER the backup...

Y'all have a good evening.

Leverguns Forum - Down for the moment

While attempting an upgrade to the forum this morning we had a problem
with the database. At this time we're uploading the backup to the
database and should have it running again soon - hopefully by this
afternoon, June 5.

Thanks!

Paul

Paco Kelly's Leverguns Forum Moving

The leverguns.com forum is making a permanent move to http://www.levergunscommunity.com/ . This is due to software and support issues with the old forum. It is the second time since I've been a member that it has changed and I believe that this change will be for the better. E-mail me if, in attempting to register, you have any problems.

Leverguns Refuge Forum is Down

Well, it isn't a good day for me, or Paul, as I apparently porked the pup on the forum this morning. Paul is working the problem as he has direct access to the server, etc... My most humble apologies. We hope to have it back up this evening.

For those looking for a blow-by-blow, I was looking at the template to correlate user instructions to the actual form/page and after clicking on the template choice block must have scrolled to the other (non-functioning) option.

Leverguns Forum Closed, Go To Temp Forum

Go to "Leverguns2"! All updates will be there for the forseeable future.

Leverguns Forum Update

Despite the deletion of some 400+ topics and many thousands of messages therein we're back to the error message.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

Could not allocate space for object 'FORUM_REPLY' in database 'Leverguns' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full.

/post_info.asp, line 1027
So, there must be something else going on but I've no idea what it is. So, if you can't post in the "home" forum you can go to Leverguns2 and post. You will have to register there if you haven't done so already. The temporary forum will not recognize your Leverguns registration.

We are trying to get this fixed. Jim has spent many more hours on this than I have and I know I've put about 3-4 hours into deleting old topics. Please be patient and, again, visit us at the temporary forum, aka Leverguns2.

Leverguns Forum - Error Messages & Inability to Reply

Folks, we know it is happening and JimT and Joel are working the problem. According to Joel
The support and usability of SNITZ for your forum software is wearing thin with the size. There are no more “updates” for snitz forums as microsoft will be sunsetting asp code and everything has been switched to ASP.NET and beyond. This shift started about 3 years ago, as you can see we have been using it as long as we could... This is a crappy situation and it is affecting me directly with sixgunner.com forums.
This means that we must migrate/change the forum to another software and probably to another slightly different format. JimT says

I am working with Joel (as I am able - he is doing the actual work on the server) to set up another Forum. We plan on keeping this one as a "read only" ... in other words, the posts will be here to browse through and read ... it just won't be a "Forum" per se, it will be an "archive".

My idea and hope is to get the other one set up and running and then make the change-over as quickly and seamlessly as possible.
and this means that they are working on it as time allows. At least we still have limited usability and we can go back to the "emergency forum".

While many have offered financial aid, Joel has said, according to JimT,
while he appreciates the generosity, he has everything covered. So, while it WAS very generous of you all .. and I THANK YOU ... it is not needed. He has the software and the hardware to set up the new forum.

What is needed is the time to get everything set up. I hope we can get it done soon.
Please, we know about the problems now so you don't need to e-mail us telling about it. I do believe that Jim and Joel will get this done as quickly as possible.

UPDATE: As of this posting time I can't reply to any messages. If you must contact me do so via e-mail.

The Sixgunner Forum is Down

You won't see their logo in the sidebar because of this. For some time they had a problem with a Vietnamese something-or-other on the site and Joel must have finally gotten around to fixing it. These things happen. Have patience and visit the Leverguns Forum instead...

Leverguns Forum Update

From JimT:
Joel called me Saturday .. said he would be working on the servers beginning Monday (yesterday) He personally had 35 sites affected including his dad's. All told over 30,000 sites were damaged. He had hopes it would be up and running soon.

He is installing the latest version of the forum and a new SQL Server.
Other than that I know nothing and can not make any forecast as to when the forum might be up.

Leverguns Forum Update

Joel's latest is that he will have the tools to get the forum back up this weekend. When is apparently a question and I can make no promises. Paco apparently believes that it won't be back on line until sometime this next week.

I have an e-mail list of those forum members who have e-mailed me and will contact them when the forum comes back on-line as well as post to the various temporary and "refuge" forums.

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Easter weekend.

Leverguns Forum Update

It seems our little problem is one of 38,000 sites that were "defaced" by the Turkish hacker. Apparently someone there wrote an automated program that was inserted into Go-Daddy's" servers and it propagated throughout the system automatically.

Go-Daddy is blaming Microsoft. Microsoft is blaming Go-Daddy and somehow the whole thing has been kept really really quiet.

It is the largest defacement by one hacker in history.

ANYHOW ... Joel is moving everything from Go-Daddy's farm of servers to others and is working on the security so we never have this problem again.

Leverguns Forums Update

I have been in contact with the administrator of the forums. To the point, Joel says that the question is whether to rebuild the whole server or re-provision the server and reload all websites. Also,
The issue faces 38,000 website defacements through GoDaddy. I thought we were the only ones. The biggest problem after talking to godaddy is that they are blaming Microsoft and Microsoft is blaming godaddy and their customers. As it stands, no one is offering any insight and we are the ones left holding the bag as far as money and costs associated with rebuild.
Now, do you still think that the Muslim terrorists aren't affecting your life? That we aren't at war? That there is anything they won't do to disrupt our lives, our way of life? Perhaps you are as stupid as Rosie and think the Brits convinced the Iranians to kidnap their sailors in order to provide an excuse for the USofA to attack the Iranians. If you don't get it yet, hie yourself down to the local grocery and stock up on aluminum foil. You're going to need a good supply of hat material.
