Central Presbyterian Church
honors the Central Quilters

May 9-11, 2003

On Mothers’ Day weekend, 2003, Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny Street, Tarentum, honored the work of its quilting group. People who own quilts made by this group were invited to bring them to the church for that weekend, when they were displayed in the church sanctuary.

This event began with the Mother/Daughter/Friend Banquet on Friday, May 9th. The quilts were on display before and after the banquet. An open house was held on Saturday, May 10th, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., when interested people from the community came to the church to see the quilts. Members of the group were on hand to answer questions, and light refreshments were served. Then on Sunday, May 11th, the work of the quilters was honored during the 10:50 A.M. Morning Worship service.

This group has made over fifty beautiful quilts, and is now in the process of completing three more. These quilts are owned by church members and their family and friends all over the country.

In addition to quilting, lunch, and fellowship, this group has served the congregation by raising funds to purchase needed items for the church kitchen, including a commercial dishwasher, and new dishware for church dinners.

Central’s quilters meet regularly on Thursdays between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M., and enjoy lunch together. Interested persons may contact the church office at (724) 224-9220.
