LifeI think about life,
and realize it's limited by physical being.I think about my universe,
and realize I'm limited by time and space.I think about my consciousness,
and realize I'm only briefly traveling through.-Pat Henry 2004
About me:
I'd probably like to say I'm a "brain scientist" or even a "rocket scientist" just because it has a nice "ring" to it. But I'm not; I'm a Neuroimaging Engineer. What is a Neuroimaging Engineer, you ask? I work at a university providing technical support for a group of people who actually are brain scientists. It may sound interesting, but it uses very little of my best talent: idle observation - contemplative thought while doing virtually nothing, as opposed to actually doing things.
Since beginning this job, I've studied precessing hydrogen proton spins, k-space transforms, and magnetic resonance imaging physics. But, really, the thing I'm interested most in learning about, is just nothing; sometimes greatness... but mostly Nothingness.
The job involves a great deal of work with computers, which makes things exciting; I dislike them and they hate me - that's ironic because, for many years, I worked as a computer systems administrator.
Although the picture above is typical of work, and of the quantum world in general (strange things happen when we're not looking), here's an even better one of me away from the office.
