A student of Zen leaves to go to a faraway land. Before leaving he promises his Zen Master that he will write updates on his progress in the form of letters.

A few months later the Zen Master receives a letter from the student that says, "I and the universe are one." The Zen Master yawns and throws the letter in the fireplace.

Some time latter the Zen Master receives a letter from the student that states, "God is everywhere, I the Universe, and God are One." The Zen master yawns and throws the letter in the trash.

Years pass and the Zen Master receives nothing from the student. Finally, the Zen Master writes a letter to the student reminding him of his promise.

The student writes back, "But who cares!"

When the Zen Master receives this letter he smiles and says to himself, "finally, he understands everything."
