Hello!
I set up shop--two easels, two white boards, etc.--in the far corner of Weatherstone's patio. My thinking was that the Board Game Club voices would travel out to the street instead of towards the other patrons.
14 gamers showed up ready to meld minds for Pictionary. We split into two teams, the Kumquats and the Pomegranates. I know, I know…nonsensical names. They were the first words that came to mind on the drive from work to Weatherstone. Go figure?!
About 45 minutes into our fruit battle, I/we were scolded by one of the coffeehouse employees. Apparently, not only had a neighbor called to complain about the noise, but several patrons had made comments as well. We ratcheted down a few notches and continued the game. To say the Kumquats won would be an understatement. They smeared pomegranate juice all the way to J Street!!
We ended the evening with a small yet stunningly articulate game of Balderdash. So many definitions were worth saving that I had a hard time only choosing one! I think the most unrestrained laughter and verbal fumbling ensued after Mike S.'s definition of the film title 'We've Never Been Licked':
"An animated film starring Woodsy the Owl…an Owl in search of how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie-Pop."
Big thanks to Laura and Leah for providing the pieces and parts for our one time only team Pictionary extravaganza!!
See you all on October 22nd!
Gwen

A medium-sized, properly caffeinated group took the inside of Weatherstone by storm last night:
Table A played Cranium with Booster Questions! Geez, those Humdingers are difficult!?! After than, we morphed into two tables. One playing the card game Bull Shit and the other playing The Collectible card game, Magic. Special honor to Melvina for her truly artful Bull Shit skills!
Table B played Earthquake and Guillotine. Yikes! I'm amazed they all made it out to 21st St. alive?!
October 8th: plan for a rousing, outdoor, group Pictionary game followed by a stimulating round of Balderdash the next time we gather on a Wednesday=)
Also, this Sunday 9/28 is the last of the trial run Sunday Board Game Nights. Hope to see you there!
Best,
Gwen

Well, let's see...21 board gamers settled into the outside tables while the house cat groomed and rested nearby. Here are the stats from the four gaming tables...
Table 1 played Pit
*Nelson won, ruling the stockmarket!
Table 2 played Mad Magazine and Cribbage
*Libby won Mad Mag
*The Sean & Libby Team won Cribbage
~ aren't we glad the seasoned cribbage player, Libby, wasn't there for our competition night?! ;-)
Table 3 played Amun-Re
*Rich won the lengthy game by one point!
Table 4 played Percudo and Buffly the Vampire Slayer
*Jason R. won Percudo
*Jason R. & Kendra won Buffy
~ hmmm, should we fear Jason now?
Thanks to everyone who brought games! It's fun to find out how many different games are out there and learn ones that I haven't played before.
Special thanks to Steph & Jason R. for trekking all the way from Placerville to join us!!
See you either Sunday 9/14 or Wednesday 9/24,
Gwen
Gwen's recap of the Cribbage Competition on Wednesday, August 27:
Well, the Sac Board Game Club saw its largest crowd last night with 24 old and new faces gathering in the courtyard of Weatherstone. We also had another canine visitor, Buster, who despite his nervousness did remarkable well=)
Let me tell yous, the tension was thick down at the Cribbage Corral. We split into five tables resulting in a winner from each table. Hmmm, what to do when you only have two prizes to present??
A grumpy Gwen decided to put the five winners at one table for a quick and dirty game of Blackjack. Result = Leah and Aaron took home the prizes!
Congratulations to you all!!
Thank you to Dave, Leah, Justin, and Kathleen for bringing cribbage boards and for downloading instructions/scoring. Special thanks to Mike S. and those who helped the greenhorns learn the game in record time:)
Hope you all have a relaxing long weekend and I'll see you on Wednesday, September 10th!
Gwen
Here's the recap of August17th from Adrienne:
Hello:
It was a small group for the inaugural Summer Sunday Game Night. But, a grand time was had by those in attendance.
First, John C. won Backgammon vs. host Adrienne. Then Jesse, John C., Dave, Kendra, and Adrienne played Balderdash. Jesse was declared the winner for being the most dashing player.
The next Sunday Game Night is Sept. 14th, 7:00pm at Weatherstone Coffee.
Hope to see you there!
Adrienne
P. S. Remember, these Sunday board game nights are limited release...so, get 'em while they're hot or else you might regret missing out!!
P.S. Also, it's totally okay to show up late. You might want to shoot me a quick email to let me know that you are coming and then I'll keep an eye out for you:)

With several people off on vacation, it was a mellow night outside with 12 board gamers and one canine. Yes, Leah's six month old Emma joined us and was most well behaved:-) We also had a special guest, Stephanie, visiting us from Utah! Here are the stats from last night:
Large Table(s) played Skippo and Too Many Cooks
Sean M. won Skippo
A 3-way tie between Laura, Stephanie and Sean G. won Too Many Cooks
Small Table played The Village
The game hadn't finished by the time we wrapped up the evening
I thought we could try a Cribbage Competition on Wednesday, August 27th. If you have a Cribbage set, please email me=)
And remember, Adrienne's first Sunday night board games is this Sunday, August 17th at 7:00pm!!
Cheers,
Gwen

Gwen's recap:
A good turn out and slightly lower temperatures had us out playing at four tables this time around. Kendra brought an Italian boardgame which snuffed any ideas that the Sac Board Game Club isn't cosmopoltian enough;) Plus, we had a new player, Bhala, visiting us from Texas!
Here are the stats from the evening:
Table 1: Scotland Yard
Group effort won first round
Kathleen won second round

The Samantha-John C.-Mike S. Team won Outburst

Table 3: Condottiere
I wasn't able to get the scores in time for the recap:)
Table 4: Bridge and Mille Bornes
It was a Bridge learning session more or less
Leah won Mille Bornes
For those of you old timers, a note about the now defunct New Helvetia's: looks like we won't be goin' Krispy afterall! I checked in with R.E. Graswich at the Bee to see if he'd heard the latest and greatest about the old firehouse at 19th & L:
> thanks for the note... heard she's still trying to
> rent it... the doughnut
> hq never went anywhere... will keep poking around...
> hope all is well... bob graswich
It'll be three weeks before we gather again due to the long month, so I'll see you all Wednesday August 13th and then don't forget.............Sunday August 17th=)
Best,
Gwen
