When I was a child, my father thought it was important for his children to see the United States. Living in Nebraska--more or less the center of the contiguous U.S.--we were well positioned for travel.
One summer we went to the Eastern Seaboard, the next to the West and California. Since my Grandmother (Nana) lived in Louisiana, we spent many Christmases there--eating hogs head cheese and gumbo instead of turkey and dressing like my friends in the Midwest.
Since then, I've lived in Texas, Colorado, Northern Virginia, and now Northern California. I've traveled around Europe, and to Nicaragua and Mexico. I've been to Madrid and Barcelona (in time for the Gaudi festival). I've been on a trip down the Danube with my daughter Becca and my mother, and to Thailand with my mother.
