Yorktown set two new regional records at the regional swim and dive
championships this past weekend at Oak Marr Recreation Center. The
girls 200-yard medley relay team’s time of 1 minute 47.22 seconds set a
new regional record. The team improved from its preliminary time by
nearly two seconds. Sophomore Maren Taylor also set a new regional
record in the 1-meter dive. Senior Kathy Hinkle also had a successful
meet, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a All-American consideration
time of 1:52.01 and finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke with a
All-American time of 57.41. Fellow senior Thea Kromer placed third in
the 100-yard butterfly with a state qualifying time of 58.12. The girls
200-yard freestyle relay team also finished first with an automatic
All-American time of 1:37.06. “It was the best you could hope for,”
said head coach Dave Lassiter, whose girls team finished second overall
with 275 points, three and half behind first place Fairfax. The
Robinson Rams won the regional boys title, easily beating second place
Oakton.
FOR
T.C. WILLIAMS senior Anders Davis was the lone bright spot, finishing
5th in the 50-yard freestyle with a state qualify time of 22.03.
