  • Yorktown Girls Place 10th at AAA State Meet

The Yorktown Swim & Dive teams participated in the AAA State Meet held at George Mason University (2/17-18/2012).  The girls team finished in 10th place, while the boys finished 35th in the state.  The top ten finish for the girls was their eleventh out of the past 15 years.

Stephanie Romano paced the girls with a 5th place finish in the 500 Free and a 6th place showing in the 200 Free.  Elena Bavolack added a 6th place in Diving and Abigail Young claimed 8th place in the 100 Back.  Romano and Young were joined by Mason Nassetta and Ellie Belilos to form the 9th-place 200 Free Relay.  The 400 Free Relay team of Belilos, Amanda Didawick, Young, and Romano finished in 10th place.

On the boys' side, Hunter Simmons placed 9th in Diving and Max Fish came home with a 15th place finish in the 100 Breastroke.

  • Northern Region Results - Girls 8th and Boys 19th

The Yorktown Swim & Dive Teams participated in the Northern Region Meet from 1/31/12 through 2/4/12 at Oak Marr.  The girls team finished in 8th place and the boys finished in 19th place.

The girls were led by Stephanie Romano who won the 200 Free and finished second in the 500 Free.  This qualifies her to swim both events at the AAA State Meet.  Other qualifiers for the State Meet are Elena Bavolack who finished 6th in diving and Abigail Young who finished 13th in the 100 Back with a State qualifying time.  In addition, all three relay teams qualified for the State Meet.

The boys were led by Max Fish and Hunter Simmons who both put up State Meet qualifying times or scores while finishing 7th in the 100 Breaststroke and Diving, respectively.

  • Girls Win National District, Boys Finish Second

The Yorktown Girls Swim & Dive team won the National District Meet to keep their streak of winning every National District title alive.  The Girls claimed 673.5 points with W-L in second with 374 points.  The Boys finished a very close second to W-L (five points behind, 404 to 399) and continued their streak of finishing first or second for the past eleven years.  More stories and results linked below.

YHS Swim & Dive Teams Face Arlington Rival W-L in the New YHS Pool

The Yorktown Swim and Dive teams had their first meets in the new YHS pool, facing cross-town rival Washington-Lee.  Both YHS and W-L were undefeated before their exciting dual meet on January 20th.  At the end of the night, the YHS girls emerged with a win to remain undefeated for the season with a 7-0 record.  The YHS boys battled W-L in a close meet but ultimately lost, leaving them with a 6-1 record for the season.    

The boys lost their meet with a final score of 154 – 161, but had many fast swims and challenged the W-L team with their depth even in races where they did not have first place finishers.  Max Fish was a double winner with first place finishes in the 100 Free and 100 Breast Events.  Will Tarkenton finished first in the 200 IM Event. The Boys’ 200 Medley Relay also finished first (Tarkenton, Fish, David Emson, Jason Henley).

The girls won their meet with a score of 226 – 89 with first place finishes in every event.  Double wins came from Stephanie Romano (200 Free, 500 Free), Ellie Belilos (100 Fly, 100 Free), and Abby Young (200 IM, 100 Back).  Other individual event winners were Elena Bavolack (Diving), Mason Nassetta (50 Free) and Lauren Allard (100 Breast). The girls also won each of the relays:  200 Medley Relay (Young, Rachel Robertson, Belilos, Kirby Nassetta); 200 Free Relay (Romano, Belilos, M. Nassetta, Young); and 400 Free Relay (Romano, Amanda Didawick, Allard, K. Nassetta).

The Patriots return to the pool next weekend for the District Championship meet, which will be held at the new Yorktown pool.  The dive events will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012.  Swim preliminaries will take place on Friday, January 27th with Finals on Saturday, January 28th.

Yorktown Swim and Dive Teams Win Meets Against Edison

The Yorktown Swim and Dive team traveled to South Run Recreation Center on Friday, January 13th for a swim meet with Edison, emerging as the winner in both the Boys’ and Girls’ meets.  Both teams are now 6-0 for the season. 

The boys won their meet with a score of 215 – 99 with first place wins in every event.  Will Tarkenton was a double winner with first place finishes in the 100 Fly and 500 Free Events.  Other First place finishes in individual events came from Jason Henley (200 Free), Evan Kopca (200 IM), David Emson (50 Free), Hunter Simmons (Diving), Max Fish (100 Free), Timothy Aldinger (100 Back), and Jack Storrs (100 Breast). The three relay teams also came through with first place finishes:  200 Medley Relay (Tarkenton, Fish, Emson, Henley); 200 Free Relay (Tarkenton, Fish, Emson, Henley) and 400 Free Relay (Fish, Emson, Henley, Sean Coleman).

The girls won their meet with a score of 222 – 82 with first place finishes in 11 out of 12 events.  Double wins came from Ellie Belilos (200 Free, 100 Free) and Amanda Didawick (50 Free, 100 Back).  Other individual event winners were Abby Young (200 IM), Kirby Nassetta (Diving), Grace Greenwood (500 Free), and Rachel Robertson (100 Breast).  The girls also won each of the relays:  200 Medley Relay (Anastasia Gustafson, Lauren Allard, Belilos, Stephanie Romano); 200 Free Relay (Romano, Belilos, Allard, Greenwood); and 400 Free Relay (Young, Allard, Kirby Nassetta, Greenwood).

The Patriots return to the pool next weekend with a meet against Arlington rival Washington-Lee at the newly built Yorktown Pool.  The meet begins at 6:30 p.m.

Yorktown Swim and Dive Teams Win Meets Against Wakefield

The Yorktown Swim and Dive team headed to the Wakefield pool on Friday, January 6th for a swim meet with Wakefield, emerging as the winner in both the Boys’ and Girls’ meets.  Both teams are now 5-0 for the season.

The boys won their meet with a score of 131 – 51 with eleven first place wins in the twelve events.  First place finishes in individual events came from Jason Henley (200 Free), Will Tarkenton (50 Free), Chris Saulnier (Diving), Max Fish (100 Fly), Henry Love (100 Free), Crosby Sensibaugh (500 Free), David Emson (100 Back) and Peter House (100 Breast).          The three relay teams also came through with first place finishes:  200 Medley Relay (Henley, Jack Storrs, Sean Coleman, Quinn Romanek); 200 Free Relay (Emson, Fish, Eric Newton, Tarkenton) and 400 Free Relay (Shahan Jayasinghe, Love, Sensibaugh, Coleman).

The girls won their meet with a score of 147 – 21, also with first place finishes in every vent.  Mason Nassetta was a double winner in the 100 Fly and Diving Events.  Other individual event winners were Greta Mosley (200 Free), Anastasia Gustafson (200 IM), Ellie Belilos (50 Free), Amanda Didawick (100 Free), Abby Young (500 Free), Rachel Robertson (100 Back) and Katie Linek (100 Breast). The girls also won each of the relays:  200 Medley Relay (Didawick, Lauren Allard, Young and Mason Nassetta); 200 Free Relay (Allard, Belilos, Gustafson, Stephanie Romano); and 400 Free Relay (Allard, Grace Greenwood, Romano, Young).

The Patriots return to the pool next weekend with a meet against Edison at the South Run Pool.  The meet begins at 6:30 p.m.

Yorktown Swim and Dive Team Has a Winning Weekend

The Yorktown Swim and Dive team had two meets this weekend and emerged with victories on both nights.  On Friday, December 16, 2011, the Patriots swam against Stuart at the Yorktown pool.  The boys beat Stuart with a score of 98 to 88 and the girls won with a score of 143 to 43.  On Saturday, December 17, 2011, the teams traveled to Fairfax for a meet against Hayfield Farms.  The boys’ team beat Hayfield with a score of 198 to 114 and the girls’ team won with a score of 245 to 68.  Both teams are now 4-0 for the season.  After the holiday break, the Patriots return to the pool on Friday, January 6, 2012 with a meet against Wakefield High School.

The boys won their meet against Stuart with five first place wins in the twelve events and many strong top 3 finishes.  Will Tarkenton was a double winner with victories in the 100 Fly and 100 Back.  Hunter Simmons won the diving event and Max Fish was the winner in the 100 Breast. The 200 Medley relay also contributed to the win with a first place finish:  Jason Henley, Max Fish, Will Tarkenton and Dave Emson.

The girls swam to a win against Stuart with wins in every event.  Kirby Nassetta was a double winner, finishing first in the 100 Fly and diving events.  Other individual event winners were Kaitlin Luncher (200 Free), Abigail Young (200 IM), Sydney Stocks (50 Free), Mason Nassetta (100 Free), Stephanie Romano (500 Free), Grace Greenwood (100 Back) and Lauren Allard (100 Breast).  The girls also won all the relay events:  200 Medley Relay (Young, Allard, Amanda Didawick, Mason Nassetta); 200 Free Relay (Ellie Belilos, Izzy Pasternak, Amanda Didawick, Mason Nassetta);  and the 400 Free Relay (Belilos, Didawick, Romano, Young).

On Saturday night, the boys’ team posted wins in 9 out of 12 events in the meet against Hayfield.  Double winners were Max Fish (200 IM, 100 Breast) and Will Tarkenton (500 Free, 100 Back).  Hunter Simmons won the Diving event and David Emson won the 100 Fly.  The boys also won the 200 Medley Relay (Tarkenton, Fish, Emson and Timothy Aldinger) and the 400 Free Relay (Tarkenton, Owen Wagner, Sean Coleman and Jason Henley).

The girls secured their win against Hayfield with first place finishes in every event.  Double winners were Stephanie Romano (200 IM, 500 Free) and Abby Young (50 Free, 100 Back). Other first place finishers were Izzy Pasternak (200 Free), Elena Bavolack (Diving), Ellie Belilos (100 Fly), Lauren Allard (100 Free) and Rachel Robertson (100 Breast).  The girls also won the relay events:  200 Medley Relay (Pasternak, Belilos, Amanda Didawick, Young); 200 Free Relay (Belilos, Didawick, Pasternak, Romano); and the 400 Free Relay (Belilos, Romano, Young, Allard).

Yorktown Swim and Dive Teams Win Meets with Mount Vernon

The Yorktown Swim and Dive team headed to the pool on Friday, December 9 for a swim meet with Mount Vernon, emerging as the winner in both the Boys’ and Girls’ meets.  Both teams are now 2-0 for the season. 

The boys won their meet with a score of 129 – 56 with nine first place wins in the twelve events.  First place finishes in individual events came from Griffin Romanek (200 IM), Chris Clements (50 Free), Hunter Simmons (Diving), David Emson (100 Fly), Jason Henley (100 Back) and Jack Storrs (100 Breast).  The three relay teams also came through with first place finishes:  200 Medley Relay (Henley, John Murphy, Emson, Tim Aldinger); 200 Free Relay (Aldinger, Clements, Emson, Eric Newton); and the 400 Free Relay (Sean Coleman, Henley, Newton, Evan Kopca).  

The girls won their meet with a score of 120 – 65, also with nine first place finishes in the twelve events.  Double winners were Grace Greenwood (200 Free, 500 Free) and Izzy Pasternak (50 Free, 100 Back). Other individual event winners were Elena Bavolac (Diving) and Ellie Belilos (100 Fly). The girls also won each of the relays:  200 Medley Relay (Megan Day, Mariah Bowman, Pasternak, Belilos); 200 Free Relay (Belilos, Bowman, Kathleen Butler, Pasternak); and the 400 Free Relay (Kaitlin Luncher, Sidney Stocks, Kayla Rusby-Wood, Greenwood).  

The Patriots return to the pool next weekend with two dual meets facing Stuart on Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Yorktown pool and heading to Fairfax on Saturday, December 17, 2011 for a meet with Hayfield.  Both meets begin at 6:30 p.m.

Winning Start to 2011-12 Season

The Yorktown Swim and Dive team is off to a great start for the 2011-12 season with both the girls’ and boys’ teams winning in their meets against Falls Church on December 2, 2011.  The girls won with a score of 104-79 and the boys edged out Falls Church with a score of 94 to 92.  

The boys won their meet against Falls Church with four first place wins in the twelve events and many strong top 3 finishes.  Max Fish was a double winner with victories in the 200 IM and 100 Breast.   The 200 Medley relay also contributed to the win with a first place finish:  Jason Henley, Max Fish, Will Tarkenton and Dave Emson.

The girls sealed their win against Falls Church with 5 out of 12 first place wins and many second and third place finishes.  Stephanie Romano was a double winner in the 200 Free and 500 Free.  Other individual event winners were Elena Bavolac in Diving and Amanda Didawick in the 100 Fly.  The girls also won the 200 Medley Relay with Abby Young, Kathleen Butler, Amanda Didawick and Mason Nassetta.   

The Patriots return to the pool on Friday, December 9, 2011 with a meet against Mount Vernon.  The meets begin with diving at 6:30 p.m.
