Howdy Gang:
A fun time last night in Philly. Psychedelic Breakfast opened the show in fine form - these guys can definitely play! Both the lead guitar player and keyboard player had great chops and they really had a nice overall sound.
After a quick changeover (in near record time), Jugs took the stage around 11:30. There was no second guessing at this show like their was at Tobacco Road - just one long and very tasty set. Gus was using PB's Leslie, and it was like watching a kid in a candy store (or maybe a better analogy is a kid trying cotton candy for the first time) - he was grinning from ear to ear. Now where can we buy one of those things for Gus :)
Again, strong versions of so many songs last night - the crowd of 50+ was really caught up right from the opening notes of Into Tomorrow. Swweeeeeet versions of Jump for Joy, Tabla Rasa, I Am the Walrus, and Laced in Silver (complete with a mini-Low Rider jam) kept the first half of the show just bouncing along. Shelter and Open Road were their typical masterpieces, and even the abbreviated Obsession >> Festival had some cool jams.
To answer Will Dennis' question about where does this show fit into the overall picture (average, great, killer), I'd have to say "above average great" - solid from start to finish.
Tonight we're off to see my other favorite guitarist in New York, and then onto Lancaster for the Bob and Pattie sendoff. This train keeps a rollin'!
