There was a lot of anticipation leading up to this show - in many ways Reading is becoming the second best place on the schedule. And with some of the Jersey crew on hand, most of the Dankaster folks and the Reading fans there, it was a packed show. I counted more than 75 watching the band at one point. Just like Phil does - Juggling opened the show with a jam. At first it sounded "One More Time-like". Kind of thick and funky. Then just like it was meant to lead into it - "Calling" surfaced. "Calling" was standard fare with good lyrics - great jam - followed by lyric reprise. "Coast" came next and man did it smoke! I am 90% sure there wasn't a "Hungry Moon" out of "Coast" but others say I'm wrong. The first cover of the night was "Mr. Charlie." First three song deadicated to the letter "C." That theme wouldn't follow as the band proceeded to play a "Forbidden Fruit," "Legalize It," "One More Time->Roadhouse Blues" and a tune or so in between. But the highlight of the above average set was "Legalize It." I would venture to say until Saturday, the Peter Tosh song hadn't been played in PA/DE/MD-area in about a year. 3/4 of the song was a normal treatment. Then when the jam portion opened up - out came a ska-like "Dark Star" (maybe only a few lines of it, but nevertheless very noticable). The setbreak talk included the little "Dark Star" nugget. Bruce was also very pleased with the set and with his ability to hear Gus in the mix. Brianne talked about still coming up with a name for the album and Bruce hinted to a "Bruce-Choir" sound in the studio version of "Forbidden Fruit." The crowd was in a frenzy during the second set - Mug was even bending his knees and grooving. The good thing - as much as the crowd raged around the stage - only one girl felt inclined to get up on the stage and yell "Pink Pather" (which Bruce, Gus and Ivan noodled on a bit). Highlights: "When Everyone Knows" -> "Festival", "Velvet Sea" with a hot Mark solo. A solo in which Baltimore's Electric Thom said proved Mark could school Trey. Another debate for another time, but I'm sure both could learn something from the other. Another increasingly rare song "Obsession" gave way to "That's Alright Mama." Afterwards I bid farewell to the band before heading back to Dankaster. Mark said the show felt real good. I'd bet everyone in the crowd agreed. Do the Suns ever dissapoint?

Good to see everyone out my hometown venue! It was the highlight of my weekend, that's for sure... We got some of the Jersey crew to Reading, and they had a real good time (they were in full party mode all weekend because it was Bubblechick's birthday celebration weekend!) And some new abductees (or as one guy put it, "Jugg-napped" :) from the GOTV scene in NY/NJ. Speaking of the Vibes (tickets on sale now!), a few of us made a push for Juggling to play there this year, but they had already booked the fest acts by NYE. However, Juggs may be playing at another big Terrapin Presents fest this year... Lets keep our fingers crossed for that... These guys need to be playing the big festivals across the US and abduct the masses!
See ya at Trenton and New Brunswick (after Gov't Mule show!) next week!!!
