Howdy Gang:
Another fun adventure in Lancaster - always a treat to play at the Blue Star! A nice place to play, kind hosts, a crowd that loves to dance, and special friends - the makin's for a real great time.
Musically, there were indeed some magical moments - from the start, the energy was incredibly high, and the fans were so supportive of Will Dennis sitting in on bass for Bruce. Raging versions of Northern Lights > Pwave and Shelter got the crowd locked with the band that was already flying on all cylinders. Gus graced us with a new original "I Slipped Out" - sort of in the Phish vain ("Simple"?) with few lyrics but an infectious groove - it sounded great to me. A strong version of Crimson was followed by a heartbreaking technical &^%&*%$# as the band dashed into the uptempo "Crimson Jam" - Mark's guitar simply quite right there on the spot.
Now imagine Tim leaping from the back of the room "in a single bound" onto the stage to figure out what was wrong - meanwhile, "The Power Trio" just continued with a sweet little jam. After several minutes of systematically changing just about every darn cable on Mark's rig, we finally deduced that it was his guitar - &^%&*%$# - fortunately, Tim already had his rig on stage, so we simply switched guitars, and away they went. The coolest part of the whole ordeal was that Mark just joined "The Power Trio" as if nothing had ever happened. We're confident that the guitar just needs one "hard to get at" wire reconnected and will be as good as new.
Set 2 started off with a bang - Kenny G. (or Ken Kruise according to a recent newspaper article) sat in on bass so the band could meet the crowd demands for a Tabla Rasa and Spinsong. Both versions were powerful. Then Will joined the band again as they launched into One More Time. Another cool version of Twilight Dance led sweetly into seemless transitions for The Other One and Obsession. Makisupa Policeman made it's second appearance (but IMO, not as strong as the version from Brownies), and the clock on the wall brought an end to a fun night.
Thanks for a great time and great job Mr. Will!
