He also teaches improvisation and composition.

Paul has studied saxophone wtih Buddy Savitt, Lee Konitz and Tom Ferrante; flute with Al McDonald and Sharon Zuckerman. He earned his B. Mus. in composition at the Philadelphia Musical Academy and his M.M. in saxophone performance at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He has also studied at the Longy School of Music and the Creative Music Studio. Paul Combs is certified in Music Education by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Paul Combs is now on the Massachusetts Cultural Council Roster in the Perfroming and Touring catagory. This means that matching funds are available to schools and not-for-profit organizations engaging me for perfromances, clinics or lectures. This eligibility is also extended to the New England Foundation for the Arts. The grant deadlines are (if we understand correctly) quarterly: September 1, December 1, March 1 and June 1. Please check with their respective sites for details.

Paul Combs has been involved in education since 1965. He has earned the respect of his colleagues in the field of music education as a classroom teacher comfortable with students of all ages, and he has over 30 years of experience in private instrumental teaching. By combining his experience as an educator with his even greater experience as a performer he has developed the following clinics and workshops addressing improvisation and practicing skills. Since 1970 Paul Combs has been lecturing on topics in music to groups of all ages, from general listeners to fellow professionals. He has spoken at colleges, professional conferences, libraries and cultural centers. Among these venues are Skidmore College, Bridgewater State College, the In-service Conference of the Mass. Music Educators Assn., the Nashua, NH Public Library, the Rye, NH Public Library and The Center For the Arts In Natick. For his complete resume click here.

Currently Paul Combs is offering the following lectures which are ready for presentation. In addition, he is capable of preparing and presenting talks on topics in Jazz History as requested. A minimum lead time of eight weeks is required for these presentations. All of Paul's lectures are "illustrated" with musical examples, both recorded and live.
