Z-code Interpreters

From this page, you can download a Windows-based z-code interpreter, or follow this link to the IF-Archive for several other options and thousands of free IF games.

Windows Frotz 2002 Written and supported by David Kinder. Another fine product of the Frobozz Magic Z-code Interpreter Company.

WinFrotz R5.3 Another nice Windows-based interperter although it is no longer supported.

Frotz Z-code interperters are freely available from the IF-Archive for just about any platform you can think of. Unix, Linux, Mac, OSX, DOS, Palm, Acorn, Amiga, X11,... Click here.

It's a good idea to put Frotz.exe in the same directory (folder) as your game files (The game files are the ones with a .z5 suffix.) Then, the easiest way to get started is to just drag-and-drop a game file onto the Frotz icon, and it will start.

Depending on your OS, you can also set up a binder so that clicking on a game file will automatically launch Frotz. Or, you can double-click Frotz and then select File/load and select a game file that way.
