Eclipse 2006 Trip

Days 4 and 5 - At Sea

The two days at sea on the way from Syracuse to Cairo, Egypt were useful in preparing for the eclipse. It gave us time to check equipment, do test runs, and attend lectures that discussed the circumstances of the eclipse and prepare us to "experience" (not just view) it. It also gave us time to just relax and enjoy life onboard ship. The weather was cool in the morning warming nicely throught the day. Of course, on the upper decks, it is always breezy when the ship is moving. The days were more clear than cloudy. I would describe the weather as springlike. Very enjoyable.

A telescope equiped with a white solar filter. Viewing through these telescope onboard ship was amazing. The ship has stabilizers and the waves were generally small. 101_0811.JPG (105685 bytes)
