Honor Our Veterans

I don't have time to write much. I am so busy at work and at home these days that I haven't had time to do much writing. I have a project deadline coming up next week at work, and then a code freeze on December 3rd, so blogging will be even more limited than usual. I wish I had more time to write, since there are so many interesting things going on. I'd like to write more about the aftermath of the election, the death of Yasser Arafat and what it means to the Middle East, what's been going on in Iraq, and so on, but alas, there just isn't enough time for me to comment on all of that.

So, I have to prioritize, and that leaves me with time to comment on on just one thing - the one thing that I think is more important to me, personally, than all of the rest of those other topics, important as they may be.

Since I have such limited time to write, my top priority is to spend that limited time honoring our military veterans.

"Freedom isn't free" has become a cliché, but it is absolutely true. Throughout our nation's history we have been blessed to have men and women who have been willing to sacrifice their lives so that the rest of us can live in peace and freedom. As Jesus said in John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." Willingness to put one's life on the line for others, to bring freedom to an enslaved world, to stand up against brutal dictators and oppressors - it's a high calling, one deserving of honor, praise and gratitude.

So, to all of our veterans: thank you. I appreciate your sacrifice, your courage, your willingness to give your all in the cause of peace and freedom, so that my family and I, and so many others around the world, can live our lives in peace and safety.

God bless you all.
