Why fight?
Why am I fighting the Plainfield Park District? Some say it's "a waste of time" to fight this group. This board does whatever it wants, having the areas that have nothing for their kids in their subdivisions, pay to support NEW areas that are getting very nice amenities. Older subdivisions have been paying a long time with nothing to show for it, except tax bills-not even a thank you note. Older subdivisions, east of I-55 have no facilities, but have to travel into other subdivisions to use park facilities. This brings up the "outsiders stay out" syndrome, discouraging people who have kids and no facilities. We all live in the same district. If my neighborhood had a playground or park, it would anger the Village of Plainfield and the new residents? What was I thinking of? Example, Sunnyland and Crystal Lawns subdivision have no park amenities; both are east of I-55. Ash farms, west of I-55 has horse riding facilities, playground and bike trails. The Streams has a recreational center, playground, water feature and bike trails. It sounds like profiling of neighborhoods is happening. That would be cold. They do care for us-for our money. The current survey is predictable. People who have facilities are positive, and those with nothing, negative. What does the park district have intended for us? Nothing! They don't understand that traffic patterns are getting more congested east of I-55? People in Joliet are helping to pay for supporting other subdivisions in Plainfield. I don't feel sorry for these groups. Ah no! They have been sold a bill of goods to benefit the village, new residents and the board. I suspect a referendum will be on the ballot within a year to further their own agendas. Come referendum time, I will be there to fight them. Anthony Skoien Plainfield
Less safe now
Senator McCain, Rudolph Giuliani and other Republican speech makers have made much of George Bush's leadership after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. But leadership is not making a brave speech at Ground Zero, when a scared nation was desperate to hear anything that could reassure us that everything would be OK. Leadership is not repeatedly ignoring dire warnings from your own intelligence sources of a likely imminent attack. Leadership is not leaving the job in Afghanistan unfinished and Osama bin Laden still at large to fight an unnecessary war in Iraq. And leadership is not obstinately insisting that absolutely no mistakes were made, and that progress is being achieved despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Our country is less safe now than it was four years ago. That fact alone is reason enough for a change of administrations in Washington. Peter Anderson Joliet 09/07/04
