  • Maxime Noe Sarazin's father died before he was born. He emigrated from Quebec, Canada to the United States about 1896 when he would have been about 20 years of age. He originally settled in Jewett City, Connecticut, where he met Edith Pepin. He was a tin smith and a plumber.

He married Edith Agnes Pepin on January 2, 1900 at St. Mary's Church in Jewett City which is a section of the town of Griswold, Connecticut.

The North Attleboro Directory of 1911 has this entry for Maxime Sarazin:

Sarazin Maxime plumber 76 Spruce house do

He died an untimely death on June 23, 1932. The text below is from an article that appeared the next day on the front page of The Evening Chronicle of North Attleboro, Mass., Friday June 24, 1932. The text has been re-typed as it appeared with the following mistake being noted from the article. The article states he was 68 years of age, but he would have just turned age 56 three days before his death according to our notes of his birth taking place on June 20, 1876.

WELL KNOWN CONTRACTOR DROWNS AT FALLS POND

Maxime Sarazin, Second Victim Of Drowning At The Pond In A Single Day. Circumstances Are Unknown.

The Falls pond claimed its second victim of the day yesterday afternoon when Maxime Sarazin, well known plumbing contractor, went to his death about 50 feet from the James street shore. He was alone in his boat fishing, and fell into the water. Whether he slipped while moving in the boat or was stricken with a fainting attack is not known.

In the morning Norman Chabot, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Chabot of 64 Fisher street, was drowned at the Three Walnuts end of the pond when he waded into the water after his cap and sank without warning.

Mr. Sarazin, who was 68 years of age, had been working with his boys in the James street section and desiring a rest decided to go out on the pond. He had been on the water some time when Innocenzo Cilli, former high school athlete, who was on the opposite side of the pond, caught sight of the capsized boat. He hastened to the spot.

In the meanwhile children on the shore saw what had occurred and ran to nearby houses, yelling for aid. A call was sent for doctors and also for the fire department.

The firemen grappled for the body and when it was taken from the water by Henry Meyer, a group, assisted by Dr. Edward S. Ward, assistant medical examiner, worked for several hours in an attempt to bring back life. All efforts failed. For the second time during the day Rev. Alfred Bonneau, curate in Sacred Heart Church, visited the pond and administered the last rites of the Catholic Church.

Medical Examiner Jesse Battershall of Attleboro pronounced death due to accidental drowning.

The report of the drowning came as a shock to Mr. Sarazin's many friends. He was one of the pioneer members of the Sacred Heart parish and had always been an energetic worker in its development. He had been in the contracting business here for a quarter century and was a highly respected resident of the community. He was a member of the North Attleboro lodge of Moose.

He leaves a wife, Edith; four sons, Euclid, Camille and Roger of this town and Dorily of Putnam, Conn; three daughters, Mrs. Alfred Lacasse and Misses Agnes and Retia Sarazin; two brothers, Peter and Phillip of Canada; three sisters, Mrs. Dina Poirier of Central Falls, Mrs. Joseph Maynard of Jewett City, Conn., and Mrs. Joseph Defond of Canada, and four grandchildren.

The funeral will take place Monday morning from his late home in 90 Spruce street.

Here is the article about his funeral from the following Monday, June 27, 1932:
