The Cushman Union Church was not only fortunate in having for
its founders such men as George Cushman, Robert Cushman, Ansel
Nickerson, S. T. Malery and J. H. Philips, but it has been
equally fortunate in raising leaders to carry on the work the
founders started. Among those mentioned with pride are Henry
Carpenter who has been secretary and treasurer of the Sunday
School since 1877 and who, with his brother, Charles Carpenter,
has been a trustee and caretaker of the Church since its
erection in 1883. Herny Guild and Abner Atwood were
superintendents of the Sunday School for about telve years each.
John Adams, former mayor of Pawtucket, was chairman of the board
of trustees from 1883 until his death.
Wendell Hudson
and Asa Newell have also been trustees from the start. Jerry
Wightman and Peter Dean were superintendents of the Sunday
School, trustees and deacons of the church for many years. Miss
Florice Guild, treasurer of the church for a quarter of a
century and its clerk for a decade.
