WHY PROTEST PETZ UNLIMITED?

Petz Unlimited is currently operated by Port Dare, a man convicted in January, 2002, of animal cruelty. He was FOUND GUILTY BY A JURY of killing a kitten by placing it in a bag and putting it in a freezer at his former store, Petland. Later he took it outside and beat it to death against the side of a trash dumpster. This was purportedly witnessed by several witnesses who later testified against him at trial in the Cumberland County Court of Common Pleas, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Mr. Dare was sentenced to 15 days incarceration in Cumberland County Prison, fines and costs, anger management counseling, and was to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Mr. Dare subsequently lost his Petland franchise. A few months later, he opened yet another store, Petz Unlimited, placing the kennel license in his mother's name. He still runs this pet store and oversees complaints, employees and animal care. The protesters/boycotters feel he should NOT be operating another pet store where he is in charge of animals.

Complaints of the appearance of improper care of the animals of this store continue to be told to us even today. The law always seems to look the other way. We have decided that we will speak for those who cannot and do our best to properly inform every person possible of what this store is, where many of their animals come from, and whose pockets they would be lining if they choose to shop at Petz Unlimited. Please read the accounts of people who made the mistake of buying an animal at this store listed on this website.

Selling animals when PA has such a pet overpopulation problem to the point that many beautiful animals are put to death daily in shelters is in our opinion irresponsible. Add to that disgrace the fact that Mr. Dare continues to financially benefit from these defenseless creatures is nauseating. Hopefully, you agree that this store should not be in the business of selling or caring for animals. Please join us in boycotting this store! Please shop at other reputable stores that don't sell puppies and kittens and adopt from a local shelter or rescue. And please tell everyone you know who the operator of this store really is. Many lives depend on these humane decisions!
