Welcome to the first Pure Excitement Comics CD-ROM!

All proceeds from the sale of this disc will go toward purchasing more material for my web sites and future CD-ROM offerings! Thank you very much for your support!

This CD-ROM features 15 great stories which have never previously appeared in the pages of Pure Excitement Comics, as well as rescanned versions of the three Target stories which have been featured on the web site. The 18 tales were published over a period of six-and-a-half years, March 1942 to October 1948. They feature a number of different artistic styles and give a nice overview of the American culture during and after the second World War.

The following is a short biography of The Target and The Targeteers which first appeared in issue 2 of Pure Excitement Comics:

The Target was Niles Reed, a metallurgist who developed a flexible and bulletproof metal material which he used to create his yellow Target costume. In his first appearance, he became The Target to help his brother, who was being framed for murder. However, his brother was killed in the story, leaving The Target wanted by the police.

From his second appearance on, The Target was assisted by two partners known as The Targeteers. They were Dave Brown and Tom Foster. Dave and Tom wore red and blue versions of the Target costume, but who wore which actually varies from story to story, probably depending on how closely the colorist was paying attention. I even have one issue where the Target himself is wearing the red costume!

The trio were often assisted by their secretary, Tina, who figures prominently in a few of the stories reprinted here.

The Target appeared in almost 100 issues of Target Comics, beginning with Vol. 1 No. 10 and running, with some gaps at the end, through Vol. 10 No. 1. The feature also appeared in three issues of 4 Most Comics. Target stories also appeared in Blue Bolt Comics 102-105 & 110, but those are reprints of earlier Target Comics stories.
