Character(s): The Green Lama
Publication: Green Lama No. 7
Publication Date: January 1946
Publisher: Spark Publications
Jethro Dumont, the Green Lama started
out in the pulps as a Shadow imitation. The first pulp
adventure was written by Kendell Foster Crossen under the pen name of Richard Foster.
The Green Lama premiered in comics in Prize Comics no. 7, but in his mysterious pulp
form, not in his later superpowered form.
The Green Lama later reappeared in
his own comic book, clad in his familiar superhero uniform and complete with superpowers
including flight and super strength. In order to access his powers, which he gained during
a trip to a monestary in Tibet, Dumont chanted "Om Ma-Ni Pad-Me Hum." He chanted the
reverse to turn back to normal.
The Green Lama appeared in Prize Comics
7-34 and Green Lama Comics 1-8. The story reprinted here features a
striking art style which was very difficult to scan to CD-ROM. Hopefully the quality of the
artwork makes up for any difficulties in reading the story. If you have trouble
reading the text in the story, changing your screen resolution should help.
