   The American Eagle and his sidekick Eaglet were two of the many patriotic heroes of the Golden Age. The American Eagle was in reality a young scientist named Tom Standish who worked for the government. A mysterious black ray endowed both him and his young pal Bud Pierce with the flying and fighting qualities of America's national bird.

   As the American Eagle and Eaglet, the pair used their powers to battle for liberty and justice. Their adventures usually saw them combating Nazi or Japanese saboteurs and invaders.

   The American Eagle appeared in Exciting Comics nos. 22-27, 29-38, 40-47, and 49-50; The Fighting Yank no. 18; and America's Best Comics nos. 2, 6, 7, 10-12, and 14. The American Eagle's first appearance and origin was in America's Best Comics no. 2. Eaglet's first appearance and origin was in Exciting Comics no. 22.
