The Scarab
|
Character(s): The Scarab
Publication: Exciting Comics No. 43
Publication Date: January 1946
Publisher: Better Publications, Inc.
According to a
later story published in Exciting Comics no. 48, the Scarab, in reality archeologist
Peter Ward, was the reincarnation of the high priest of the Egyptian Sun God. Also,
the Scarab was assisted by a black cat named Akh-Tu, the reincarnation of
the high priest's assistant. But the introduction to the earlier story reprinted here
presents a slightly different origin, with Ward receiving the Scarab powers from
the Egyptian cat-god and Akh-Tu-Men the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian
priest.
In order to transform
himself into the powerful Scarab, Peter would activate the scarab ring he
always wore, causing a blinding flash in which he instantaneously became
the Scarab. The Scarab possessed a number of superhuman abilities, including
super strength, flight, and invulnerability. In one story, he was shown
spinning so fast that he bore through solid rock.
The Scarab appeared
Exciting Comics 42-48, Black Terror no. 20 , and Startling
Comics no. 34.
