Smart Start Toys
is a new company
with a fresh
approach to home
party sales. I
founded Smart
Start Toys in
2008 after a
frustrating
holiday shopping
experience for
my three young
children. I was
looking in
particular for
creative,
well-manufactured,
affordable toys
for my three
year-old
daughter. The
majority of
"girl" toys I
found at the big
box stores were
pink and
plastic and conveyed
societal and
gender messages
that I didn't
want my daughter
to experience.
I was
well-acquainted
with Melissa &
Doug toys and
when I checked
out their
complete product
line, I was
astounded at all
the
wonderful toys
they offer that
I had never seen
in stores, or
even online.
There must be a
way to share all
of these
fantastic toys
with more moms!
As a mom with
young children,
I know how
frustrating it
can be to shop
for toys. I
also know how
much I value the
time that I
spend with other
moms, sharing
parenting
stories,
re-connecting
with other
adults, learning
new ideas, and
having fun. I
decided to try a
new approach to
home parties by
offering the
complete line of
Melissa & Doug
toys to local
moms at relaxing
mom's nights out
or
playgroups. There's
no
sales demonstration
to endure;
instead, moms
can relax,
browse, play
with the toys,
share parenting
tips, and shop
for
high-quality,
affordable toys
in the comfort
of a friend's
home. I didn't
have any
intentions of
building a
company but my
parties caught
the attention of
local moms and
within a year,
we had a team of
Smart Start Toys
independent
sales
consultants in
Massachusetts
and New
Hampshire.
We're adding
more consultants
and more
manufacturers to
our catalog and
keeping a
careful eye on
our mission:
