Taxidermy Becomes You
by Maria DelVecchia

Arrested in furs, sculpted breath
Deferred. The soul secure in a
Stunted stitch.

Trade goo for glass eyes,
Teeth for a plastic palate.
Frozen follicles, combed glossy clean,
Prepared for hyper-life.

Your mother wouldn't recognize you
In this stance. Arms raised in alien ritual
Defy logic, gravity, and sin.

Synthetic orbs will never see
The bargain made for you body.
The cycle of decay, disrupted for décor,
Bartered for blessings and beer.
