Open Hand
by Frank Walsh

Nothing for certain but anomalies
near fifty years against the system
I yearn for some motion sickness
though no lap to lay my head down in
the windshield mists over with insects
abandoned I come up into the light
an opening eye cataracts the window
the moon fulls fleshes out
I flush, my loaded pack's found
in the dead of night someone
stole my heart there is no purpose to
continue though I've had advantage of
the high ground there were forests too
I could wake on command, stir

at the snap of my own fingers
I need to come around not take for granted
or was it the noise woke me from hypnosis
at least I yanked the bad plastics from my chest
cavities hand over hand as if I was
climbing back into a womb
this time one of darkness of warmth forgotten
but then the moon nudges thunders
beyond these halls a stitch of incense
on the breeze calls me up to reconcile.
Was it as good for you as it was bad
for me ruining this planet, my world once
turning away doesn't help a thing
is it the moon I point at, or is it you, or is it me?
