Greater Philadelphia Area Recorder Academy

Recorder players

The Greater Philadelphia Area Recorder Academy offers recorder players and ensembles an opportunity to study with professional recorderist Rainer Beckmann. Students learn how to improve technique and interpretation of music performed on recorder.

Classes are one hour for solo and duet classes and ninety minutes for trio and larger ensemble classes. Individual lessons provide personal attention on technique and interpretation while ensemble lessons focus on group dynamics and ensemble development.

Fall 2007 dates:
    September 29
    October 27
    November 17
(early afternoon)

On Saturday, June 16, 2007, the Greater Philadelphia Area Recorder Academy commemorated the completion of the semester with a Spring Recital. The concert featured the academy's students and provided a representative insight into the work accomplished during the past six months.

The program of the recital focused on music from England and Germany, including sonatas by G.F. Händel and G.Ph. Telemann, English grounds from the end of the 17th century, as well as Jacobean consort music. Furthermore, neo-romantic compositions from the second half of the 20th century were heard along with G. Fauré's famous Pavane, here performed in an arrangement for recorder sextet.

Policies:

  • Scheduling a lesson.
Please contact Rainer Beckmann via email (info@PhilaRecorderAcademy.org) to schedule a lesson. Scheduling will be possible throughout the semester depending on the availability of lesson slots.

  • Changing a lesson.
Closing date for any changes is the first day of classes. Thereafter, the student is considered responsible for his or her lesson slot. A lesson schedule and contact information of the recorder academy participants will be provided in order to facilitate later changes.

  • Beginning and ending on time.
Lessons start either on the hour or half-hour. Students enter the lesson room some minutes in advance with their stuff unpacked to guarantee a timely progression of classes.

  • Paying the instructor.
Payment to the instructor is made at the beginning of class, so that the full time allotment can be devoted to the lesson, and a following student's time is not eventually taken up.

  • Managing an emergency.
If a student needs to change a lesson slot due to an unanticipated conflict, the instructor is to be contacted ASAP. Every effort will be made on his side to arrange for the lesson to be covered. However, in the event that a lesson slot can not be covered, the lesson fee will be asserted.

LocationLocation: Lessons will be in the music room of a private home. There is ample parking, and the Ambler PA site is conveniently located on Cedar Hill Road between Horsham Road (Route 463) and Welsh Road (Route 63) near Route 309. Address, directions, and a map are available.
