No, the Philadelphia Homeless Run (PHR) is not another road race.  It is in fact a modest ministry started by two members of the Great Valley Presbyterian Church (GVPC) at 2025 Swedesford Road in Malvern, Pa.  Their personal motivation was to provide some of the homeless in Philadelphia with food, clothing, basic sustenance, kindness, moral support and most of all, spiritual strength.  See the Background link for more information on how it all started.

After learning that another church, the Bible Way Baptist Church at 52nd and Master Street had been doing the same thing for some time, they partnered with each other to become more productive.  As such, the GVPC PHR Team has grown to include a core team of 10 members with other members of the church participating on each run.

The PHR occurs on the third Saturday of every month.  The gathering is outside the Philadelphia Free Library on 19th Street, between Callowhill and Vine.  Setup begins at 7:45 AM followed by prayer with the homeless at 8:00 AM before needed items are distributed.  During this time, one on one ministry is provided if needed and requested.  The time of fellowship concludes with a parting prayer with the homeless.  Everyone is encouraged to lead in prayer if so moved.

This endeavor is non-profit as everything brought into the city is a result of loving donations from individuals from GVPC and their community of friends.
