Piedmont & Cumberland RR

The Piedmont & Cumberland Railroad was an operating entity of Senator Davis’ West Virginia Central & Pittsburg Railway. It became, in fact, the WVaC&P in Maryland. It was formed in 1887, and was absorbed into the Western Maryland system by 1905. It layed rails from WvaC Jct parallel to the B&O line in 1886. Some controversy was involved in its construction. In 1888, connection with Cumberland was achieved. The yards were located south of the Market Street Bridge in Cumberland.

Senator Davis had been a B&O Station Agent at Piedmont, and the bounty of timber and coal resources of West Virginia did not escape his view.
