Are Your Bridges Safe?

Yesterday, August 1, 2007,  portions of a bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota collapsed and fell into the water, taking the lives of several people and destroying a number of vehicles. I understand that it happened during rush hour and the traffic was heavy with people who for the most part, were following the everyday pattern of their lives. Most of them were doing what they normally do at that time of day or maybe some of them were on their way to a baseball game. They felt safe as they were crossing the bridge until some ominous sounds of failing and falling steel caused concern, but it was too late to stop and change directions. Until the warning signs of impending disaster sounded they were confident that they were safe and headed in the right direction.

How about you? Are you sure that you are safe and headed in the right direction?  Are you trusting in the flimsy, corroded undergirding of tradition, dead works and rituals or does your faith and trust rest upon the solid Rock of Jesus Christ and the blood that he shed for you? Are your bridges safe?
