Summer 2003

Our two-week summer camp was a success! We set out to have tons of fun in the sun and we accomplished just that! Since our plan was to be out in the sun, it seemed fitting to start camp making cool caps to wear. This would be a fun way to assure us protection from the strong sunrays. We used fabric markers and made some neat designs. Each day we did arts & crafts, the messier the project the more engaged we were! Papier-mâché was a favorite; we used balloons to form vases and snakes. We used colorful dye to bring color to different shape macaroni’s for necklace making and to tye dye t-shirts. Painting is always desired; we used sparkly paint-to-paint neat wooden treasure boxes and fancy toy cars, trucks and boats and of course we had to paint our papier-mâché projects. The children loved using sand art and play dough. It was exciting for them to bring home something different that they created each day. We also did some “neater” activities which was pleasing to some of the children who were not certain they liked their hands to get so dirty……we used stencils to trace a picture across several Popsicle sticks and created our very own puzzles to put together and decorated sunrays to hang on our windows at home.

Our mornings typically began with some gross motor activities, the children enjoyed using the playground structures and we initiated lots of chase and ball games! We pulled out our big parachute as we bounced our big star ball and counted really loud each time the ball lifted in the air! The children really enjoyed acting out the Three Little Pigs story as we chose three fun houses to actually hide in and blow down! Each child had their own version of the big bad wolf! We have some great performers at Together We Grow! The sand and water tables were enjoyed each day. We played fun rope games, the teachers showed off their talents of jumping into a moving rope as they sang their favorite jump roping songs! There were so many laughs when we brought out Crazy Daisy; it was impossible to go near her without getting wet! Face painting and Popsicle treats were also highlights as we read a funny story to end each day! Thanks to so many of you who joined us during our two-weeks of camp. It was a nice opportunity for us to meet our new friends starting school in September. We all enjoyed seeing one another once again especially our Pre-K graduates back for one last time for fun at Together We Grow before their new venture to Kindergarten!
