Nelson Brook - 03
Ruthanne and I took a trip to the Nelson Brook Yurt in the Phillips Brook area of New Hampshire. The Phillips Brook system of trails and yurts is run by Timberland Trails [http://www.phillipsbrook.org/] and is located just north-west of Berlin, NH. The land is currently owned by the International Paper Company. The trail system makes use of the extensive system of logging roads which makes for great touring. The yurts are well furnished so pack weights can be kept low. As of this writing, Timberland Trails is expanding it operations into Vermont and considering relocating some of their yurts in New Hampshire.
We went to the Nelson Brook yurt, which is (currently) located near the head waters of Nelson Brook. The ski into the yurt was just a bit over 3 miles on relatively easy rolling terrain. We saw more wildlife tracks than we could including grouse, hare, moose and fisher cat.
