Make Your Own Paper Bag Princess Mask!
What fun is pretending to be a knight without armor, a dragon without scales, a princess without a pointy hat? Well it's a lot of fun! Still sometimes its nice to look the part. This is a great parent and child project for young adventurers.
You will need:
- An adult's help
- One paper grocery bag (large enough to fit over your head)
- Scissors
- Markers or crayons etc.
- Glue or tape
- Optional:
- Paint
- Construction Paper
- Poster board
- Yarn (or other thick string)
- Hole Punch
1.
Cut a piece of poster board to fit inside the bag (you can do this by tracing the bottom of the bag) and put it aside to use later.
2.
Decide what you want your princess to look like.
Draw a hat and a circle where your face will go on your paper bag. Try to fill the whole bag. You do not need to draw a face.
3.
With an adults help cut out the part of the mask where the face goes.
Carefully try on your helmet
NEVER CUT FACEHOLES WHILE WEARING YOUR BAG!
4.
Add crumpled up newspaper to the inside of your bag before putting it on to raise the bag up. Do this until you can see easily out of your face hole.
5.
If you still cannot see clearly have an adult help you cut more space around the face hole.
6.
Put the piece of poster board you cut earlier inside the bag so that it keeps the newspaper from falling out. Tape the Poster board in place.
7.
Next color the bag above the top of your drawn helmet a dark color (we recommend black) or you can leave it brown.
8.
Color your hat any color you like (we recommend a bright color- If you want a dark colored hat simply leave the top of the bag brown.
9.
Time to decorate your mask. Add yard around the face hole to make hair for your princes.
OPTIONAL:
10.
Tape a piece of ribbon to the tip of the hat to make a streamer.
11.
Using 2 large pieces of Poster board (start with about 1foot by 2 feet long and trim as needed) the hole punch and yarn create a sandwich board to wear as a dress. Just draw the front and back of the dress on the poster board.
This Project can be adapted to create any costume you like!
