My Other Guitars

1986 Ibanez 540 Radius:

This is the oldest guitar I presently own.  It was my main guitar from 1986 'til 1991 when I bought my first PRS.  She's black with a red airbrush design on it, black chrome hardware, and the Ibanez Edge locking trem in the style of a Floyd Rose bridge.  It's been re-fretted once, and newer/better pickups installed.  The top is a mass of pick scratches - it ain't pretty.  Still, it has a great neck, and is generally a very comfortable guitar to play.  I still play her, but not quite so much these days.

Carvin DC200 Koa:

If you could imagine a guitar with real tone control, then that would describe the Carvin.  It's a real beauty, being made (body and neck) out of Koa, a wood that only grows in Hawaii.  She's got gold hardware, active electronics, Wilkinson trem bridge, Sperzel locking tuners, and paua abalone blocks in its ebony fingerboard. Presently using PRS Dragon I pickups with awesome results!!

Charvel Spectrum:

This guitar is my absolute favorite 'strat-style' recording guitar.  Modeled after a Jackson guitar that Jeff Beck used on his Flash album, it's whisper quiet and has an active tone control.  This gives an extra bit of control over a tone selected on the 5-way.  She's also the only other guitar I presently own with a 'Floyd Rose' style bridge.  The color is 'surf green' and the tone is 1957.

Takamine Acoustic-Electric

This guitar was a birthday gift from Nora many moons ago.  It is constricted almost entirely of flame maple, with a mahogany neck.  Due to its all-maple body, its overall acoustic tonality is in the high/high-mid range - which basically means it sounds a bit trebly.  Plugged-in is the way for this guitar.  Through a P.A. system, she sounds really quite nice - seriously!  Still, she's real purty in that cool translucent blue finish.

Seagull M6 Spruce:

I bought her new in Spring of 2001.  My friend, Nate, had bought one while staying in Canada (where they're manufactured), and it turned out to be a great guitar!!  While Nate's has a glossy finish, mine has a 'satin' finish.  Mahogany back, neck and sides with a 'bear-claw' spruce top.  I LOVE this guitar!  It has a very *big* and balanced tone, and an exceptionally nice neck shape.  Best bang for the buck anywhere!

These pics were taken by Nate Sands using a Pentax ME Super 35mm camera and Kodachrome 64 slide film.  Thanks, Nate!!
