My PRS Guitars I love my PRS guitars! They represent all the things I want/need in a guitar, and I use them often. To learn more about these fantastic guitars, visit PRS Guitars. Also, there's a terrific online forum I frequent called Birds and Moons. A great bunch of people and a fantastic knowledge base for all things PRS.
My McCarty: She's a 2000 PRS McCarty in Dark Cherry Sunburst with an Indian Rosewood neck, a 1-piece top (non-10), adjustable stoptail bridge, gold hardware, and bird inlays. Completely stock, except for the addition of TonePros bridge lockdowns. A total tone machine, she's my favorite of the bunch!
My Santana: She's a 2002 PRS Santana III in Santana Yellow with 10-top, nickel hardware, bird inlays, and Santana II pickups. Carlos Santana has always been one of my favorite guitarists, so I just had to have one. A beautiful guitar with a beautiful tone that plays great and doubles as a work of art!
My sparkly: She's a downright gorgeous 1996 PRS Standard 24 in gold haloflake (note the color-changing flakes!) finish with gold hardware, moon inlays, and Dragon I pickups. The gold haloflake finish is a sight to behold. In one form of light, the guitar just looks black and covered with gold sparkles. However in brighter light, all the colors come into play! Tonally, the focus is on mids/low mids, so she can sound a bit 'fatter' than the Custom. Plus, with the 5-way rotary I can use this axe with just about any type of gig! Look at all the pretty colors!!!!
My EG: This one's a 1993 PRS EG-3 (series II) in electric blue with nickel hardware, and dot inlays. She's kinda rare, only built for a couple of years, and a real find! Actually, my son, Jesse, can take credit for pointing this one out at a local music store! Completely stock, she's a very versatile axe! I've had a couple of tempting offers to sell her, but I just can't part with her. She's here to STAY!
My Custom: Last, but not least, is my 1991 PRS Custom in deep purple with a - barely noticeable - 10-top, nickel hardware, bird inlays, Dragon I pickups, customized 5-way rotary, and the PRS 'upgrade kit'. I bought her on September 19, 1994, having traded two PRS CE-24's for her. Out of all my PRSi, this one definitely has the most mileage! She was my main guitar for 8 years, eventually giving way for my Standard 24. Battlescars abounding, she has served me well these many years of ownership. Presently, she's in dire need of a refret (her 2nd!), so she sits proudly in the stable in semi-retirement until a re-fret can be afforded.
My Cedar-Top Custom: I bought this 1989 PRS Cedar-Top Custom at a guitar show in Philly in 1992. I paid quite a bit for her, especially considering all the scratches and dings all over the body and neck, but she rewarded me with a well balanced tone and a wonderfully comfortable neck. It was custom-made for a gentleman named Stanley Whittaker from the 70's prog-rock band "Happy The Man". I eventually sold her to fund the Santana III, but I've always missed her. She has a mahogany back and neck with a downright GORGEOUS "Quilted Cedar" top in antique sunburst, Brazilian rosewood fretboard, gold hardware, and bird inlays. Also, Paul Reed Smith himself actually signed the headstock of this one, along with the inscription "custom-made for my friend Stanley" in the treble side of the headstock (see bottom photo).
Some of these pics were taken by Nate Sands using a Pentax ME Super 35mm camera using Kodachrome 64 slide film. Thanks Nate! I love all of these guitars! I have others, but these are my favorites, and get the most playing time. Long live PRS Guitars!! |
