Very Reverend Hugh H. O'Regan, V. F.
Saint James the Greater Parish

Dear Father O'Regan:

Thank you for the time you gave me last Monday, 14 March, when with you I visited and viewed Saint James the Greater Church on Harrison Avenue and Holy Trinity Church on Shawmut Avenue. Having the benefit of an actual visit to both churches, and of speaking with you, I was prepared to discuss several matters relative to Holy Trinity Parish with Archbishop Sean O'Malley on Thursday, 13 March.

Following our conversation, I write to share with you Archbishop Sean's decisions in light of the closure of Holy Trinity Parish scheduled for 30 June 2005. I request you share this letter, or at least the substance of it, with the faithful attending holy Mass at Holy Trinity Church.

Since Holy Trinity Parish is canonically a German Personal Parish, Archbishop Sean invites you and the representatives of the German faith community to have conversation with Father Arthur Coyle, Secretary for Pastoral Services, to determine what needs there may be for ongoing pastoral care for German-speaking faithful, so that if such needs exist the Ethnic Apostolate Office may see how these may be provided for.

Regarding the faith community which gathers at Holy Trinity Church for the Traditional Latin Mass (1962 Missal), Archbishop Sean has decided the weekly and holy day Traditional Latin Masses in response to the 1988 motu proprio Ecclesia Dei will move to Saint James the Greater Church on Harrison Avenue, Boston, following the effective date of the closure of Holy Trinity Parish, 30 June 2005.

Both Archbishop Sean and I are very grateful to you for your priestly ministry at both Saint James the Greater Parish and Holy Trinity Parish, and for your generous offers to accommodate the faithful at Saint James the Greater Church who will be worshipping according to the 1962 Missal the Traditional Latin Mass.

With my prayerful best wishes to you and to all the faithful of Holy Trinity Parish, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Richard G. Lennon
