Dance Class
Had a good practice Monday. A rare event - we had more men than women at one point. Perri and Betty's two sons were good sports and participated in several of the dances. Cindy, Donald and Ronald's neice also joined us for the evening.
We worked on the pousette and applied it to the dance "Flowers of Edinbourgh". Need to hustle the chase in 6 counts so that you have time to set at the end for 2 counts.
We continue to work on "Bees of Maggieknockater". We need to make one correction on it next week - the last turn is a right hand turn for the men but a left hand turn for the ladies. It's the same turn as earlier in the dance with lead couple using outside hands. Again check out YouTube for video of this dance. We also have an instructional video with "Bees" on it. You would be welcome to checkout the video at any time.
We finished the evening with "The Dunedin Festival Dance" which is a great mixer dance - the scramble to form new circles almost always generates a laugh from the group.
See you next week,
Cheers,
Jim

With snow on the ground and temperature hovering at 32 degrees, we've scrubbed dance class tonight.
Had a good session late week, 2/2/2009. I'm encouraged by the effort the group is making to master Bees of Maggieknockater. It's a difficult dance but well written and flows well. It was composed by the same person who created Belle of Bon Accord - John Drewry. I've continued to be impressed by his compositions. Being a writer of dances myself, I know how hard it is to make a dance flow naturally. Checkout YouTube for a couple of video demonstrations of "Bees".
Others dances we've been working on:
Roaring Jelly
Balnain house
A Wee Nothin'
The White Heather Jig
Cheers for now,
Jim
