The Sports Car Club of America is an organization based in Englewood, CO that serves to provide over 65,000 members with the means to race in a safe, organized manner on many of the most historical tracks in the United States. Along with Road Racing (which we participate in), there is Road Rally, Solo, Solo II, SCCA Pro Racing (which covers Trans-Am) along with many others. At any event you go to, all of the stewards, flaggers, corner workers, safety people, etc are all volunteers. No one gets paid at these events (except of course for the Pro races).
The dues to join the SCCA are very reasonable, a single membership for regional and national participation is $65.00/year, and you get a subscription to Sports Car magazine, the official publication of the SCCA. The SCCA does a very good job of serving over 50,000 members, many of which often want different things at the same time.
The people you meet at SCCA events, we have found, are some of the nicest people you will ever find. They are regular people, just like you and me. They have families, jobs, etc., yet they have a passion for racing in one form or another, and the SCCA gives them an outlet for their passion. You don't have to be a driver to have fun. If you just want to be involved with racing, go to one of the events in your area and walk around the pits. Many of the people are extremely friendly, and if you want to lend a hand, most drivers would love the extra help. You may even get yourself hooked up with a team as a permanent crew member!
The SCCA web site is extremely well done, with dozens of categories and features. You can find anything you need there, and I use it a lot to find out schedule information, phone numbers, etc. Join the SCCA today, and go racing tomorrow, but watch out, we'll be gunning for you!
