Introduction
This is just a place where I'm putting some notes on WWW advertising.
Jargon
Marketers who are selling stuff pay to put ads on
publishers' web pages.
Ad revenue is generated in three ways:
- CPM (cost per impressions) = when the amount paid for an ad is based on how many page impressions are achieved.
- CPC (cost per click) = when the amount paid for an ad is based on how many times it is clicked.
- CPA (cost per action) = when clicking on an ad ultimately results in a user buying something or signing up for something.
CPA is of course the most risky for the publisher.
This is especially true in a poor economy.
