My Java midlets

This is a page for my Java programs. I wrote these for the Sciphone i68 phone (more info here). This phone has a 3.2 inch touch screen display. I've mostly ceased coding for J2ME for the reason that coding for Windows Mobile is much easier and those apps run much faster on my Windows phone. In addition, the Java provided on these phones is slightly buggy.

Rectangles

This is a test program that I wrote that has some interesting features. It displays some information about your phone in a box that you can move around your touch-screen. When you press on the box it displays a scrollable list.

The program demonstrates:

  • My code for drawing a non anti-aliased font that is built-in to the program. I converted this font from the free TeX typesetting system.
  • My benchmark test for Java. This attempts to ascertain how fast the processor is by calculating how many mathematical calculations are possible per second.
  • My code for drawing a "splash" screen that also permits you to move that around the display. This is turn demonstates the graphics speed of the phone.
  • My code to produce a scrollable list.

To exit the program press the front button and select Terminate.

Foodist

This is an unfinished program for nutrition and diet management. It's unfinished because I switched development to a different platform entirely, namely Windows Mobile, which is much faster and does not present as many hassles as Java does. See my Foodist page for the latest version.

Foodist 0.1 serves to demonstrate:

  1. The standard form-based user interface of J2ME.
  2. The problem with scrolling on the Sciphone i68.
  3. The bland default font that is provided with J2ME.
