The Last Legion is a fictionalized account of what happened to the last Caesar and to the last Legion that was loyal to him. While no doubt historically inaccurate (as was 300, Troy, etc.) which unfairly portrays the Germans in a very bad light, The Last Legion is actually a very good film, for several reasons:

  • While the leading man is not an A-list actor, he is very good.
  • While the leading boy is hardly known, he too is a good actor.
  • While the film has an attractive leading female character, she is actually Indian which is a nice change.
  • While it is an action film, it does not over-do the action.
  • While it is a recent film, it does not use lots of annoying computer-generated special effects.
  • It more ways than one it takes us off the beaten track, which is a nice change.
  • While it is historically inaccurate, lots of the military gear and uniforms are believeable.

In short, it's a better film of the Ancient Rome/Greece genre than some of the more special-effectsy things that have come out lately. If you have to choose between this film and let's say Troy, skip Troy.
