Introduction
This is just a list of nice sounds
that I've found around the Web that could serve
as ringtones or message tones for a cellphone (mobile phone)
such as the Sciphone.
Converting sounds
Windows
Under Windows there are several free and open source programs
that work well for dealing with audio.
- Audacity = audio file converter (requires LAME for MP3 encoding)
- BeSweet = audio file converter
- CDex = CD ripper
- FreeRIP = CD ripper (not open source)
Linux
Under Linux, the command-line utility "sox" performs conversions.
To rip a CD, the KDE suite include an audio creation tool.
And of course Audacity exists for Linux, too.
