Introduction
These are just some notes left over from when I took Spanish 101
back in 2001.
These mostly have to do with family member names, of which there are many
in Spanish.
Demonstrative pronouns
- Ésta/o = this
- Éstas/os = these
- Ésa/o = that
- Ésas/os = those
Note the rule: adjectives go before noun when emphasized.
Relative judgements
Some masculine adjectives are placed before the noun:
- bueno → buen
- grande → gran
- malo → mal
- uno → un
Family members
Non-blood relatives
- cuñada/o = brother/sister in law
- nuera = daughter in law
- suegro/a = father/mother in law
- yerno = son in law
- hermanastro/a = step-brother/sister
- madrastra = stepmother
- padrastro = stepfather
- esposo/a = spouse
- prometido/a = fiancé
Blood relatives
- abuelo/a = grandfather/mother
- tío/a = uncle/aunt
- sobrino/a = nephew/niece
- pariente = relative or kin
- primo/a = cousin
- nieto/a = grandson/daughter
