IBM Alt-Key Accented Characters

Introduction

Many people don't know that the standard US IBM keyboard permits users to enter accented character using key sequences involving the Alt key.

This involves holding down the Alt key while using the numeric keypad to type in a 3-digit number that identifies which accented character is desired.
