When was it built?
The Eiffel Tower was constructed between 1887 and 1889.
What is the Tower composed of?
Iron.
Where is the Tower?
The Eiffel Tower is just south of the Seine river,
which flows through Paris, in the 7th Arrondissement (district).
It is on a field called the Champ de Mars (field of the god Mars).
Why was it built?
It was constructed for a World's Fair entitled
the Exposition Universelle,
which commemorated the anniversary of the
French Revolution.
How high is it?
300 meters or about 915 feet. The antenna is 24 meters high.
Who was Gustave Eiffel?
He was a French engineer of a family of German immigrants.
His name was chosen after emigration to France
because the French were having trouble with the family's
original name, Boenickshausen. Eiffel comes from the
river Eifel, which flows past the family original hometown.
New observation deck
Serero architects will be adding a huge, new observation
deck to mark the 120th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower.
