Introduction

Advocates for free markets and open trade have a battery of myths, bad arguments and outright lies -- in a word propaganda -- that they use to further their cause. What they don't tell you however is that there is a mountain of evidence that the wonderful free market that they claim to have established is nearly nonexistent. So not only have big corporations been having a veritable orgy of mergers and acquisitions for years now, but they've also been operating a kind of massive corporate cartel. The interlocking directorship is the tool used to build that massive cartel.

There isn't really much to an interlocking directorship. One man or woman simply sits on the board of two or more companies, which contradicts the concept of free and open competition between companies. Imagine if one football player played on two teams at once, even two teams that were in direct competition. It would be an outrage in football. Even a child could see it's wrong. But in business, it's commonplace.

What we have in the USA is directors being used to connect companies that are in the same industries. The links usually consist of a string 2 or 3 directors, no doubt to disguise their cartel activity. Sometimes there are links of one director between companies that ought not be linked.
