Description

The Keystone Power Plant is owned by Reliant Energy. It is located in Shelocta, Pennsylvania, Indiana County, 9 miles upwind from Indiana, Pennsylvania which is the site of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Keystone is rated the #4 emitter of mercury in the entire USA.

Please note that according Citizens for Tax Justice, Reliant paid zero taxes in 2003: CTJ report.

Also in Indiana County are:

Edison: Homer City Generating Station.
Reliant Energy: Conemaugh Generating Station which is along the Conemaugh river.

Pollution

2001: Output by the Keystone plant of mercury was 1800 pounds.
2005: Keystone reported to output 17 million pounds of primarily acid aerosols.
2006: Output from Keystone of SO2 is listed as 178000 tons.
